Working on a new bio, it’s coming soon. In the meantime, I’ve left my old one…

My introduction to film and media was during my IGCSE year at St. George’s College in Malaga. I was selected as group leader for my media group when we created a movie trailer called ‘Cureon’ that was later short-listed for the top 16 in the film festival Banos del Carmen in Malaga in 2011. Since then I have been drawn towards filmmaking.

On finishing my A levels in June 2012 I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity for a gap year experience. I worked in Finland for five months as a media intern at the Helsinki Diakonia Institute. I created a promotional video for nursing degrees, marketing campaigns, assisted in promotional fairs and some administration duties. During my time in Helsinki I studied for a TEFL degree (English teaching course) and obtained my certificate in December 2012.

Early in December 2012, I was introduced to Michael Kirtley, an international journalist, filmmaker and author. I was invited to join his project The World Memory Film Project: ‘Exit Xenocide’ (WMFP). The project is about empowering young people internationally to fight against future genocides, learning and reflecting from the past and creating a feature length documentary of video stories made by social media enthusiasts.

I made my first short film about my perspective on the Cambodian genocide. A country I feel truly passionate about. This video story received worldwide recognition and shortly became the leading video for the project. I was subsequently invited to the UNESCO Youth Forum in Paris this autumn to promote and encourage other young people to make their own video stories for the “Exit Xenocide” project. Whilst at UNESCO, we campaigned alongside our partner and sponsor ISESCO (Islamic Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and I was appointed Youth Ambassador for the project in Spain.

This takes me to the second part of my gap year where I chose to embark on a 3-month journey, on my own, to Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. My interest in these countries is that as a child I travelled with my parents in these and other 30+ countries worldwide. Asia has remained my favourite continent. Consequently, this South East Asia journey was very important moment in my life.

Then I returned to Spain, with no idea what I was going to do. I had thought of applying to University (for the second/third time) but… I got a job instead! I began working pretty much straight away for Magnethi, an eCommerce company whom promotes property rentals and golf holidays in Spain. As  designer I was in charge of all web graphics and designs. I managed booking engines, online affiliations, social media networks, wrote up weekly articles for the blogs and made sure customers were given the correct support. In that year I learned a lot and had a lot of fun discovering the world of eCommerce (online shops/companies) and web graphics.

So now I live in Edinburgh. After 2 ‘gap’ years I still wanted a change of location, of career ambition and of purpose. As I have stated, filmmaking is my passion – and I wanted to get back into it. Studying was something that I had not completely discouraged, just left it in the back seat for a time. So here I am, living in a beautiful area in old town Edinburgh, surrounded with creative and lovely people, studying what I hope will one day take me to achieve my career goals in whatever they may (change to) be.
